What is a DVD menu?
A DVD menu is typically the first thing you see when you play a DVD you’ve hired from the video-shop. It is a set of images which can be navigated around using your DVD player remote control. Movies will often have a ‘main menu’ with buttons which act as links to things like ‘scene select’, ‘view trailer’, or ‘deleted scenes’. When you select one of these buttons you are taken to either a) another ‘page’ in the menu, which in turn has more buttons, or b) a specific point in time of the movie. The purpose of the menu is to give the viewer more control over exactly what they want to see. It also makes a video look much more professional. You’ve probably seen a DVD menu many times before.
What is a ‘DVD menu template’?
A DVD menu template is a DVD menu which can be easily personalised using DVD authoring software. Personalising a DVD menu is great because it allows you to build all sorts of your own information right into the menu. You can change a DVD menu by adding statistics, biography, pictures, text – whatever you want!
What is ‘DVD Authoring’?
DVD authoring is the process of turning video footage into a form which can play on a DVD player. DVD authoring software also allows you to create and modify DVD menus. There are numerous DVD authoring programs out there – however, most are incompatible with each other. That is to say, if you create a menu using Ulead DVD Workshop, you cannot then use that file in Sony DVD Architect.
Fortunately, our templates make use of the most popular DVD authoring software available – Adobe Encore, which is available for both PC and Mac.
